Robert Allen Morrow, 79, of Youngstown, died Nov. 23 at Forum Health Northside Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born November 17. 1926, in Parker, Pennsylvania, the son of Samuel Henry and Ethel Moyer Morrow, and came to Poland Center in 1933. He was a 1944 graduate of Poland Seminary High School and served in the U. S. Merchant Marine during World War II. Bob worked for Ohio Bell Telephone Company and was co-owner of Morrow's Underwater Sports Shop in Youngstown, through which he taught scuba diving to state troopers and city firemen along with the public. His Daffy Divers Club was well known throughout the country. He and his wife were also co-owners of Willow Lake Park Campground, located in Champion, before retiring in 1985. He later worked for the Crown Divison of the Allen Group. Bob loved being with his family and friends and was generous with his time and talents, always offering a helping hand to anyone who needed help. It is said that a clock was a hindrance to him, since he always had time for everyone. He enjoyed camping, fishing and music. He belonged to the Hammond Organ Society and the Austintown AARP Chapter 4339 Noteables Chorus, providing much enjoyment for area nursing home residents. Bob attended Cornerstone Presbyterian Church and belonged to the Merchant Marines Veterans. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former June Durbin, whom he married on May 15, 1959, and who died on May 12, 1998. He is survived by a daughter, Diane Loeffert, and her companion, Sue Granoff, of Columbus; sons Jeffrey Thorpe of McKinely Heights and Richard Thorpe and his wife Janice of Wickliffe; his twin brother Richard and his wife Nancy of Toledo; brother John and his wife. Laureen, of Acme, Pennsylvania; and a sister, Jean and her husband George Lapiere of North Forth Myers, Florida, as well as a number of grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. Besides his wife, Bob was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Sally (Ed) Ross, Virginia (Ed) Bowers, and Sue (Leonard) Baker; and brothers Kenneth (Bud), Samuel Henry, Jr. (Chip), and Howard (Hud). Calling hours will be from 4 to 8 on Sunday, November 27 at the Becker Funeral Home, 11 Spring Street, Struthers. Services will be held at the funeral home on Monday, November 28, at 11 o'clock, with the Reverends William Wolfgang and David Foster officiating. Friends may call on the family an hour proceeding the service. Interment will follow at the Lowellville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cornerstone Presbyterian Church, 471Matthews Road.
