Poland - Robert A. Luginbill, 87, of Poland, died September 12, 2012 at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center.
Mr. Luginbill was born May 24, 1925 in Youngstown, a son of Professor Paul C. Luginbill and Jeannette(Black) Luginbill.
He was a 1943 East High School graduate and went on to attend Purdue University, Chicago University, Cleveland University, and Youngstown State University.
Mr. Luginbill worked for Republic Steel(LTV), where he retired in 1984 as Manager of Pipe Mills Mahoning Valley District.
Robert was a charter member of Good Hope Lutheran Church. He also was a member Poland Kiwanis, Mahoning Valley Management Association, American Legion Post 0888, and the Poland Historical Society.
He was a veteran of the United States Navy, where he served on submarine USS Tigrone, which has been credited for firing the last shot of WW II. The USS Tigrone was in Tokyo Bay at the time of the Japanese surrender.
He enjoyed attending his grandsons sporting events and the Poland Band.
He is survived by his wife, the former Florence H. Gombida, whom he married Nov. 23, 1946; one daughter,
Nancy (Tim) Wagner of Poland; two grandchildren, Todd R. Wagner of Rochester Hills, MI and Kristian T. (Jenn)Wagner of Lewis Center, OH; and two great-grandchildren, Addison and Tyson.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be held Saturday at 11AM at Good Hope Lutheran Church, with Pastor Bob Quaintance officiating.
Friends may call Saturday from 9:30-10:45AM at the church prior to the service.
Interment with military honors will follow in the Poland Riverside Cemetery
