Poland - Robert L. Laing, 76, formerly of Altoona, PA, passed away Sunday morning, April 7, 2024, at Hampton Woods in Poland.
Robert was born March 5, 1948 in Altoona, PA, a son of the late Thomas and Aravella (Chirdon) Laing.
He graduated from Austintown Fitch High School in 1966. After high school, Robert served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
After his time in the service, Robert returned to the area and worked for Midwest Steel & Alloy in Youngstown for over 30 years. He started as a burner and later became a foreman before retiring in 2012.
He was a devoted father, grandfather, and brother. Robert enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Robert is survived by his two children, Leslie A. (Carl) Meehan of McDonald, OH and James A. (Kimberly) Laing of Youngstown, OH; five grandchildren, Brandon Laing, Kara Meehan, Adam Laing, Kailey Meehan, and Kiersten Laing; his sisters, Patricia Maloni of Mars, PA, twin sisters, Mary Jean (JD) Cavrich of Hollidaysburg, PA, and Mary Jane (Jerry) Milliron of Altoona, PA; and sister-in-law, Sandra Laing of Glendale, AZ.
Besides his parents, Robert was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas Laing and Kenneth Laing; and a brother-in-law, Richard Maloni.
Family and friends may call on Thursday, April 11, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, 270 N. Main Street in Poland. There will be a memorial service celebrating Robert's life to follow at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor James Berkebile officiating. Interment will take place at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown.
