Robert J.Boyd

Vienna - Mr. Robert J. Boyd ,80 of 2252 Pleasant Valley Road died Tuesday morning at his residence. Mr. Boyd was born January 18, 1924, in Youngstown, Ohio, the son of Harry G. Boyd and Callista O'Connell Boyd. Mr. Boyd served in World War II for 3 years - a Sergeant in the 3rd Infantry Division.He served in Africa,Italy,France,Germany and Austria. He received the Bronze Star, 5 major campaign stars and 2 bronze arrow heads for 2 amphibious landings. Attorney Boyd was a lifetime resident of the Warren-Youngstown area. He attended Warren Schools up to 11th grade and graduated in 1942 from The Rayen School in Youngstown. He attended Youngstown College receiving his A.B. in 1948. His first year of Law School was Western Reserve College of Law in Cleveland. After suffering an automobile accident in 1949, Mr. Boyd completed his law school at Youngstown State University receiving his Juris Doctorate in 1953. He worked for the Trust Department of Dollar Savings & Trust Co., now known as National City Bank for 20 years in Youngstown. In 1974 he joined Union National Bank, now Bank One, Youngstown as Vice President and Trust Officer. Retiring in 1984 from Bank One he moyed to Society Bank in Youngstown spending two years as Vice President and Trust Officer. Upon completing his affiliations with Banks, he practiced law in the offices of Letson, Griffith, Woodall, Lavelle & Rosenberg Co., L.P.A., Warren, Ohio. He was an original member of the Law Day Committee of the Mahoning County Bar Association from its inception in 1953, serving many years as its chairman. He was a founding member of the Board of Trustees of the Mahoning County Bar Association Foundation. He established the Robert J. Boyd and Jean M. Boyd fund of the Foundation to perpetuate the Law Day awards to students of the Youngstown area Law Day essay contest. He was a member of the Trumbull County, Mahoning County and Ohio State Bar Association, Youngstown Chamber of Commerce, Mahoning Valley Health Planning, Cerebral Palsy Board of Directors, Co- founder and member of Mahoning-Shenango Estate Planning Council, Board of Directors of Industrial Information Institute, Inc. Youngstown Club, Youngstown Athletic Club of Y.M.C.A., President of Board of Directors Assumption Nursing Home, American Institute of Banking, Youngstown Playhouse Board of Directors, Mahoning Valley.Management Association, Inc. and was on the Zoning Board for the Township of vienna. He also worked on community drives such as Heart and Cancer Fund, Y.M.C.A. Membership Campaign and the Chamberof Commerce Membership Drive ­ He is survived by a son, Robert, of Vienna; a companion Jackie Cgaig of Warren, and three grandchildren. His wife, the former Jean Bertin, died in November, 1995. A sister, Ruth Johnson is also deceased. A memorial service will be held Thursday 12:30PM at Unity Church Center, 1226 Naylor Lloyd Road, Girard, Ohio 44420. Davidson Becker Funeral Home, 11 Spring Street, Struthers, is in charge of arrangements. The family will meet friends an hour before the service at the church.
