Robert F. Hanshew, 85 Conneaut Lake- Robert F. Hanshew, 85 of 12068 Sagwaw Drive, died Saturday morning at the Beverly Health Care in Meadville, Pennsylvania. Mr. Hanshew was born November 14, 1919 in Monaca, Pennsylvania a son of Glen and Mary Kuhn Hanshew. He was raised in Monaca and moved to this area in the late 1940âa�a��s. Mr Hanshew worked for General Fireproofing for over 29 years and retired as supervisor for Department 44 in 1977. Obtaining the rank of sergeant, Mr. Hanshew was an Air Force Veteran serving in World War II. He attended Aliquippa High School and for 2 years played professional basketball for the Youngstown Bears. A natural athlete, Mr. Hanshew played semi-pro softball for General Fireproofing and also was a member of the companyâa�a��s bowling league. He later enjoyed watching his grandson, play sports. A lover of the outdoors and nature, Mr. Hanshew was founder and charter member of the New Middletown Farmers Sportmanâa�a��s Club. He spent time in Florida, growing fruit and fishing on freshwater lakes for bass. Every June, he and his friends traveled to Canada for their annual fishing trip. Besides his wife the former Martha F. Cover whom he married May 19, 1950 he leaves one daughter, Mary F. Walla and son-in-law Stephen of Canfield, Ohio; three sisters, Annabelle (Walter) Keppel of Moon Township, PA., Evelyn (Otto) Casoli and Gerry Domitrovich both of Aliquippa; one sister-in-law, Connie Hanshew of South Heights, Pennsylvania and one grandson, Robert Walla. Besides his parents, one brother Glen âa�A"Skipâa�A� Hanshew and two sisters, Ruth Fellows and June Manolovich preceded him in death. The family of Robert Hanshew would like to express their gratitude to the employees of Beverly Heatlh Care and especially to Debbie. Funeral services will be Wednesday, 11:00 AM at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland. Friends may call Tuesday, from 5-8 PM at the funeral home.
