YOUNGSTOWN — Robert G. Johnston, 88, formerly of Poland and Craig Beach, died Sunday, March 21, 2021, at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.
Robert was born Aug, 3, 1932, in Youngstown, a son of the late Grandon and Pearl Winters Johnston.
Raised in Poland, he was a 1952 graduate of Poland Seminary High School. Continuing the family business, Mr. Johnston owned and operated Johnston Hardware for many years before its closing in 1984. After its closing, he went on to work for Stambaugh-Thompson Hardware, and later, Home Depot.
An Army veteran, Mr. Johnston proudly served his country during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1956 with the rank of Sp3.
His wife, the former Patricia Weeks, whom he married Oct. 19, 1999, preceded him in death Oct. 15, 2015. Mr. Johnston is survived by several cousins.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, William Johnston.
A private graveside service was held for the family on Thursday at Poland Riverside Cemetery.
