Robert W. Davis

Services will be held Tuesday, 12:00 p.m. at Davis-Becker Funeral Home for Robert W. Davis, who passed away at Hospice House Saturday morning. He had led a full and active life until he contracted an illness in September.
Mr. Davis was a lifelong resident of Youngstown and Boardman. He was born in Youngstown on June 11, 1919 to William H. and Ethel Williams Davis. After graduating from South High School, he attended Youngstown College and studied accounting.
As a gifted musician, he put his talents to work in World War II by enlisting in the United States Army as a bugler. He was promoted to Staff Sergeant after joining a chemical unit, and in July of 1943 he was awarded the Silver Star of gallantry while fighting in Biscari, Italy.
Upon returning to Youngstown after the war, Mr. Davis joined in the wholesale distributorship co-founded by his father, The Daugherty-Davis Company, which he led until closing the business earlier this year. Robert contributed to the education of generations of students from Youngstown State University who he employed as drivers and warehouse workers. He was respected by his staff, his customers, his suppliers and his competitors for his approachability, his flexibility, and his fairness.
Robert was known for his love of professional sports and fast cars, particularly BMWs.
Surviving him is his wife of over 60 years, the former Dorothea Michael whom he married Sept. 26, 1953, their three children, William (Jane) Davis of Boston, Victoria (Tom) Latimer of Canfield, and Gary Davis of Austintown. Also, seven grandchildren, one great grandchild and his devoted nieces and nephew.
Preceding him in death besides his parents are his daughter Patricia, and a sister Ruth Zimmerman.
Friends may call Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. at the funeral home.
