Boardman - Robert Arthur Baer, 93, of Boardman, passed away Saturday morning, July 9, 2011, at Clare Bridge of Austintown, surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Baer was born April 9, 1918 in Fredonia, PA, a son of Lawrence Sherman and Ina Odessa Magee Baer and came to the Youngstown area as a child.
He was a machinist and foreman employed by United Engineering and Foundry (Wean United) and retired in 1962 after 44 years of service. He was a member of Martin Luther Lutheran Church where he also served as a deacon. Bob was a member of Wick Masonic Lodge of Youngstown for 73 years where he achieved the 32nd Degree Mason and served as a Chaplain. He was a 1937 graduate of South High School where he lettered in both football and basketball.
Surviving are his wife, the former Helen Pfingsraff, of 70 years, whom he married June 19, 1941; sons, Robert A. Baer, Jr. of Poland and Ken B. Baer of Livermore, CA; daughter, Sally E. Baer of Mission Viejo, CA; grandchildren, Robert Baer of Poland, Julie Layne of Austintown, David Baer of Salem, Matthew Baer of Youngstown, Bryce Baer of Dublin, CA, Adam Baer of Riverbank, CA, Shannon Mazzarelle of Benicia, CA, Amanda Packard of La Plata, MO, and Caroline Packard of Mission Viejo, CA; 14 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Charles.
Services will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday, July 11, at the Cunningham Becker Funeral Home in Poland, where family and friends will be received from 4-5:45 p.m., prior to the service. A Masonic Service will be held Monday at 3:30 p.m., prior to the calling hours.
The family has requested that contributions may be made to Clare Bridge of Austintown, 1420 S. Canfield Niles Rd, Youngstown, Ohio 44515, in memory of "Papa Baer." The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Clare Bridge for their care and compassion towards their husband, father, and grandfather.
