Struthers - Robert James Andrews, Sr., 84, of Struthers, died Monday, April 7, 2008 in St. Elizabeth Medical Center. Mr. Andrews was born February 10, 1924 in Youngstown, a son of Andrew and Mary Stupka Andrus. A 1934 graduate of Campbell Memorial High School, Mr. Andrews worked as a millwright for General Fireproofing for 40 years, retiring in 1984. He was a member of St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church in Struthers and the Struthers Knights of Columbus, Council 4224. Mr. Andrews enjoyed carpentry and was a jack of all trades. He was a World War II Navy veteran, serving as a carpenter's mate, third class and received the Asiatic Pacific Ribbon and the World War II Victory Medal. He leaves his wife, the former Clara Ghioldi, whom he married February 28, 1946; three sons, Robert J. (Mary) Andrews, Jr. of Brunswick, John A. Andrews of Streetsboro, and William T. Andrews of Struthers; his daughter, Margaret "Peggy" (David) Maloney of Struthers; and four grandchildren, Laura Ann Andrews, David R. Maloney, Robert J. Andrews, and Jennifer A. Maloney. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, John Anderson, Andy Andrews, and Sam Anderson; and three sisters, Sue Andrews, Marie Olenick, and Mildred Palfrey. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church. Interment will follow at St. John Cemetery. Friends will be received Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, Struthers, where a prayer service will be held Thursday at 1:00 p.m. Contributions may be made in Mr. Andrews' name to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.
