Poland- Robert W. Allen, 77, of Poland, died of complications due to surgery Sunday evening at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center.
Bob was born July 2, 1932 in New Springfield, a son of Walter and Erna Seidner. He was raised in New Springfield and lived in Poland for 52 years.
A 1951 graduate of New Springfield High School, Bob was drafted in the United States Army and served in the Korean War. He served for two years and received the Silver Medal and the Purple Heart. Returning to Poland, Bob worked at General Electric for 34 years retiring as Group Leader in 1984.
He was a member of the GE Quarter Century Club and the Disabled American Veterans. Bob enjoyed playing cards, bowling and gardening, and especially loved spending time with his family.
Besides his wife, the former Donna Wilhelm, whom he married July 20, 1957; he leaves one son, Gary (Judith) Allen of Poland; granddaughter, Katie Marie Allen and her dog, Diesel, also of Poland; seven brothers, Gene (Bonnie) Allen and Harold (Darla) Allen, all of North Lima, Sam (Dianna) Allen of Boardman, James (Florence) Allen and Donald (Charlotte) Allen, all of Canfield, Thomas (Nancy) Allen of Hubbard, and Larry (Audrey) Allen of New Springfield; eight sisters, Marion (Rodney) Burroughs of Reseda, CA, Shirley Wichert of Poland, Dorothy (Robert) Dombroski and Virginia McCreery, all of Boardman, Martha (Tom Fink) Cyrus of New Middletown, Phyllis (Phillips) Simmers of Canfield, Carol (Carl) Osberg and Nancy (Jack) Crouse, all of North Lima; brother-in-law, Olin Sheely of Poland; and his mother-in-law, Ruth Wilhelm of Columbiana.
Besides his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his brother, Warren Allen; and sister, Geraldine Sheely.
Services will be held Thursday, 11:00 a.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland. Interment will follow at the Poland Riverside Cemetery.
Friends will be received 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
