Poland - Rick Slaven, 57, of Poland, died Saturday evening at St. Elizabeth Medical Center from injuries following an automobile accident. Mr. Slaven, also known as Bondo to his friends, was born March 30, 1951 in Washington D.C., a son of Ray and Jean McCormick Slaven. He was raised in Poland and lived in North Carolina for 10 years before returning to this area in 1993. A 1969 graduate of Poland Seminary High School, Rick was a sales representative for Interlock Steel Company for 20 years and then for Northern States Metal. He also worked as a manager for the ticket office of the former B&B Backstage. He was a former member of the Poland Presbyterian Church. He was a member of Boy Scout Troop 44, where he received the Eagle Scout award, three Palms, and the Order of the Arrow. Besides his parents, Ray and Jean Slaven of Poland; he leaves two daughters, Erin and Katie Slaven of Hermitage, PA; one sister, Sharon (Joseph) Dubec of Struthers; a sister-in-law, Emily Slaven of Poland; two nieces, Hannah Dubec of Struthers and Emily Slaven of Poland; and two nephews, J.E.B. Slaven of Poland and J.J. Dubec of Struthers.. Rick was preceded in death by his brother, Michael Slaven; and grandparents, Norman and Mildred Slaven and Hanna McCormick. Funeral services will be held Friday, 11:00 a.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland, with Rev. Gerald Fennell officiating. Interment will follow at the Lake Park Cemetery, Youngstown.
