North Lima - Richard D. Schneider, 82, died Sunday evening, October 23, 2016 in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his family.
Richard, affectionately known by family and friends as "Dick" was born July 18, 1934 in Youngstown, OH, a son of Eugene and Marie Ammon Schneider.
A lifelong area resident, Dick was a 1952 graduate of South High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army and served in Germany for two years. Upon his honorable discharge, he returned to Youngstown and worked as a brick layer for his father's family business, E.L. Schneider & Sons. He later became a firefighter for the Boardman Fire Department, where he retired in 1985 after 25 years of service. Dick also owned and operated R.D. Schneider Landscaping, Family Cycle Center, and the Beaver Party Shop.
He was a member of the Ohio Firefighter's Association, Local Firefighter's Union 1176, and St. Charles Borromeo Church in Boardman.
In his free time, Dick enjoyed collecting and restoring muscle and vintage cars.
Dick is survived by his wife, the former Margaret L. Coberly, whom he married June 2, 1954; seven children, James Schneider of Rosemount, Minnesota, Michael (Jeanette) Schneider of North Lima, Thomas (Heather) Schneider of Minneapolis, Susan (Dean) Baytos of Boardman, Dr. William (Natali) Schneider of North Lima, Ronald (Dala) Schneider of Leetonia, Raymond (Tina) Schneider of Leetonia; brother, John Schneider of Boardman; sister, Regina (Michael) Sanko of Boardman; 20 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by three brothers, Joseph, Eugene, and Robert Schneider; and three sisters, Mary Ann Uray, Margaret Sylvester, and Ruth Robinson.
A prayer service will be held on Thursday at 10:15 a.m. at the Davis-Becker Funeral Home, 8536 Market St., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Church. Entombment will follow at Green Haven Memorial Gardens.
Family and friends will be received on Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Although flowers are beautiful, the family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions in Mr. Schneider's name to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Boardman, Ohio 44512.
