Richard C. Kerens

Struthers - Richard C. Kerens, 84, of Struthers, passed away peacefully with his family at his side, Wednesday evening, July 25, 2018 at his residence.

Richard, "Rich" was born April 12, 1934 in Glady, WV, a son of Carl and Mary Vance Kerens.

Raised in Glady, Richard attended Elkins High School. Marrying his childhood sweetheart, Janet Cosner on September 14, 1955 in Oakland, MD, together they decided to make their home in the thriving Steel Mill town of Struthers, OH. Richard worked in the steel mills and later as a truck driver for Findley Welding Supply. He retired from Findley in 1995 after over 30 years of service.

Richard lived a full and contented life doing what he enjoyed. Many of his enjoyments included watching baseball and the stock market, sitting on his porch listening to bluegrass music, especially Rhonda Vincent, spending his summers planting and working his vegetable garden, and tending to his retirement gift to himself, his beloved Red 95' Ford Mustang.

He especially loved spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. Whether it was their annual vacations to the North Carolina beaches, trips to West Virginia, baby sitting the grandchildren and in later years attending and being present for all their extra curricular activities. He with his wife Janet were in the center of it all. Richard was a loyal family man, neighbor, friend and he was always willing to help any one in need, including people he did not know. His memories will live on in all who knew him.

Richard leaves his wife Janet, of almost 63 years; two daughters, Sandra Barone of Struthers and Brenda (Kevin) Raney of Enon Valley, PA; one sister, Grace (Walter) Shiflett of Middletown, OH; three brothers, George Kerens of New Castle, PA, Dale (Carolyn) Kerens of Elkins, WA, and Glenn Kerens of Glady, WV; four grandchildren, Eric and Jamie Barone both of Struthers, and McKenzie (Mike Engles) and Brandon Raney all of Enon Valley, PA.

In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his brother, Harold Kerens; sister, Hilda Kerens; son-in-law, Jimmy Barone; and granddaughter, Ashley Raney.

A service celebrating Richard's life will be held Sunday, 6:00 p.m. at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home with Pastor James Berkebile officiating. Richard's family will host a dinner immediately following at the Davidson-Becker Family Center. Friends will be received Sunday from 4-5:45 p.m. at the funeral home.
