Youngstown - Richard D. "Dick" Hermann, 74, of Youngstown, died Monday, October 3, 2011 at the Hospice House.
Dick was born June 21, 1937 in New Castle, PA, a son of Michael and Margaret Drisch Hermann. He came to Youngstown in 1955.
Dick first worked as a mechanic for Western Auto for 17 years and retired as a mechanic for the Youngstown Police Department, after 21 years of service.
He enjoyed traveling to the casinos with his wife, especially to Atlantic City, fixing cars, lending a helping hand to family and friends, and tending to his house plants.
He leaves his wife the former, Margaret "Peg" Kollar Hermann, whom he married October 29, 1960; two sisters, Judith (Don) Shellenberger of Pulaski and Dorothy (Robert) Cramer of Brookfield; mother-in-law, Mary Kollar of Pulaski; "adopted" son, Albert and Zoey Grundy of Youngstown; sister-in-law, Joanne (Raymond) Ohlinger of Pulaski; brother-in-law, Martin Kollar, III of Pulaski; 13 nieces and nephews; and numerous great nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Lou "Boots" Repaskey; father-in-law, Martin Kollar, Jr.; sister-in-law, Joyce Kollar; and his beloved dog, Dog.
Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home in Struthers.
Family and friends will be received Thursday from 5-8 p.m. and Friday from 10-10:45 a.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Hermann's family would like to express their appreciation to the Hospice House for the wonderful care and compassion shown to Dick.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions in Dick's name to Hospice House, 9803 Sharrott Road, Poland, Ohio 44514.
