Rev. Dr. Hugh Gunn, 87 Poland- Rev. Dr. Hugh Gunn, 87, of 40 The Ledges died Saturday afternoon at his residence. Rev. Dr. Gunn was born January 24, 1915 in Dalmuir, Scotland, a son of Hugh, Sr., and Margaret Barr Kirkwood Gunn. He came to the United States and to Cleveland in 1930. He attended Cleveland public schools, graduating form Shaw University in 1933. He received a B.A. in Philosophy from the College of Wooster in 1937 and received a Th.B from Princeton Theological Seminary in 1940. He was ordained a Presbyterian Minister in Cleveland in 1940. He earned the Doctor of Divinity Degree, College of Wooster in 1960. He did graduate work in Psychology at Western Reserve University and a 30 week Continuation of Pastoral Counseling from 1972-1973 at Christian Theological Seminary, Indianapolis, Indiana. He served in the Lyndhurst Community Presbyterian Church from 1940-1947, The Presbyterian Church, Poland, Ohio from 1947-1971, Tabernacle Presbyterian Church, from 1971-1976 and Irvington Presbyterian Church from 1977-1979, both in Indianapolis, First Presbyterian Church in Waterville, Ohio from 1979-1982. He retired in 1982 returning to Poland from where he served as Intrim pastor at Lowellville Presbyerian, Lowellville, Ohio, Wickcliffe Presbyterian and Brownlee Woods Presbyterian Church in Youngstown and Mt. Olivet Presbyterian in North Lima. Dr. Gunn served as Moderator of the Mahoning Presbytery both when it was the United Presbyterian and when it became Presbyterian Church USA. He was Moderator of the Synod of Ohio from 1963-1964 where he was chairman of the National Missions Committee from 1954-1962. He had been a member of the Preaching Mission to Alaska in 1955.He served as Presbytery Chairman of the National Missions, Ministerial Relations, Board of Trustees, and Youngstown Council of Churches. While in Indiana he was active with the Synod being active as Moderator for various churches and on the Board of the Englishton Park Retirement Home. Dr. Gunn has been active in many interdenominational activities in Indiana and Ohio. He was a radio and TV preacher and had organized a section of a historical pageant for the Whitewater Presbytery. He attended the Poland Presbyterian Church. He served on the Poland Volunteer Fire Department from 1947 to 1971 and was a member of the Poland Masonic Lodge #766 F&AM. His first wife the former Willah Jean Rice whom he married November 2, 1941 died Augsut 11, 1990. Besides his wife the former Charlotte Miller Cunningham whom he married August 17, 1991 he leaves one daughter Nancy Jean Curci of Lorain, three step daughters Suanne Rowe of Gaithersburg, Maryland, Marcia Sieg of Birmingham, Michigan and Kathleen Yeloushan of Poland; two sons, Hugh A. Gunn of Poland and Malcom K. Gunn of Franklin, Indiana. There 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be Wednesday, 11:00 AM at the Poland Presbyterian Church. Friends may call from 4-8 PM Tuesday at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland and for one hour prior to the services Wednesday at the Poland Presbyterian Church. A Masonic service will be held Tuesday at 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
