Raymond "Paul" Summer-Active with Area Youth

Services will be held on Wednesday, April 9, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Davis-Becker Funeral Home in Boardman for Raymond Paul Summer, 56, who passed away on April 4, 2014 at 6:10 p.m. at The Sunrise Assisted Living facility in Poland. Paul, as he was affectionately known, was born on December 20, 1957 in Youngstown, a son of Ray Earl Summer Jr. and Janet Lee Wynn Summer.

Paul was a 1976 graduate of South Range High School, had attended American University in Washington D.C., also Youngstown State University, and earned his Associate's Degree in criminal justice from ITT Technical Institute having been selected to give the commencement address.

Paul Summer was an Emergency Dispatcher for Gold Cross Ambulance and Rural Metro Ambulance for 20 years. In addition, he was a Volunteer Firefighter/EMT for the Beaver Township Volunteer Fire Department and served for several years as the Secretary of the Beaver Township Firemen's Association.

Paul was a very active individual when it came to youth. He served as a Trustee, Vice-President, and for several years as President of Green-Beaver Baseball. He also served two years as an assistant coach in the South Range Touchdown Club's Little Raiders Organization.
Mr. Summer was a member of the Allen Lodge #276 F & AM in Columbiana, a former member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Youngstown, the Al Koran Shrine of Cleveland, the "Kentucky Colonels" of Al Koran Shrine, and the Youngstown Shrine Club.

He was a member of the Western Reserve Baptist Church where he served as Youth Director. Paul was a former member of the Greenford Christian Church also working with the youth.
Paul is survived by his mother, Janet, of North Lima; and cousins, Ms. Leigh Altier of Youngstown, Mrs. Lynn (Lee) Clark of Poland, Mrs. Kathy (Barry) Stirbens of North Canton, Mr. Rick (Debbie) Altimus of Massillon, and Mr. William Donald "Butch" DeCarlo of Middlefield. In addition, Mr. Summer leaves several second and third cousins to cherish his memory and many very close and special friends.

Paul was preceded in death by his father, Ray Earl Summer, who died in February of 1985; his grandparents, Herbie and Eva Wynn and Ray and Erna Summer; his Aunt Ruth Altimus, Aunt Clara and Uncle Don DeCarlo and Uncle Freddie Wynn.
Our heartfelt thanks goes out to all of Paul's doctors and caregivers: Dr. Santuccio Ricciardi, Dr. Daniel Barton, Lisa, Dr. Bigdelli, Dr. Duffett, the caregivers and staff at Sunrise and the women from hospice.

Friends may call from Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. and Wednesday from 10-10:45 a.m. at the Davis-Becker Funeral Home, 8536 Market Street, Boardman. Masonic services will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday following calling hours. The service will be officiated on Wednesday by Rev. Barry Stirbens assisted by Pastors Ryan Shoaff and James McCloud. Burial will follow the service at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in North Lima.
