Youngstown - Raymond Best, 75, of Youngstown, died Tuesday morning at Autumn Hills Care Center after a courageous battle with cancer.
Ray was born February 1, 1938 in Youngstown, a son of Harry and Irene Burkhart Best.
He was raised in Poland and was a graduate of Poland Seminary High School. Ray was a sales representative for water well supplies at Trumbull Industries and Miller Supply Company. He retired from the State of Ohio as a NRW for Mosquito Lake State Park.
Ray was a member of the Friends of Mosquito Lake State Park, Inc., and the Saxon Club.
An outdoorsman, Ray loved boating, fishing, and camping. Ray was known for his wood working and enjoyed collecting Santa Clauses and toy trains sets. It was always Christmas at the Best Home. Ray never met a stranger, he was a friend to everybody.
Ray is survived by his wife, the former Elizabeth Binder, whom he married March 10, 2001; one son, David (Kathy) Best of Canfield; two step-sons, Rick (Rania) Fullerton of CA and Jeff Ulizza of TX; one son-in-law, Paul Vagnarelli of Youngstown; one brother, Carl Best of Tampa, FL; one sister-in-law, Evie Best of New Waterford; five grandchildren, Paul (Lori) Vagnarelli, James Best, Kristi Vagnarelli, Drake Fullerton and Brittany Best; one great-grandchild, Gianna Vagnarelli; numerous nieces and nephews; and his cats, Snuggles, Snickers, Smokey, Skeeter, and Sammy.
Besides his parents, Ray was preceded in death by one son, James Best; one daughter, Karen Vagnarelli; and one brother, Richard L. Best.
Friends will be received Thursday from 5-8 PM at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland. In honoring Ray's wish there will not be a funeral service.
