Randall "Randy" Wightman

Boardman - Randall C. "Randy" Wightman, 62 of Boardman, Ohio, died Friday, January 7, 2011 at his residence.

Mr. Wightman was born April 12, 1948 in Warren, son of Harold and Angela Volpe Wightman.

He was a 1966 graduate of Austintown Fitch High School, and then received his Bachelors degree in Biology from Youngstown State University. Randy worked as an Environmental Scientist for Youngstown State University for 30 years in the Chemical Management Department and was also a registered Sanitarian. He was an amateur radio operator, and his call letters were WD8AOM; he enjoyed collecting maps, butterflies, rocks, and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially with his wife, Cathie and his daughter, Rachel. Randy was a loving and devoted husband and dad. He was a Cleveland Cavs, Indians and Browns fan, and was an active member at High Pointe Church, and was also a Junior Bible Quiz Coach. By faith Randy Wightman accepted Christ in 1976 and his life changed forever.

Besides his mother of North Lima, he is survived by his wife and best friend, the former Cathie Lovitz whom he married July 26, 1980, a daughter Rachel Marie Wightman of Springfield, MO; a sister Noel (Edward) Davis of Austintown; a brother Eric (Karen) Wightman of Greenford; two nieces Rebecca Davis of Austintown and Valarie Young of Boardman; Mother-in-Law, Mary Helen Lovitz of Poland; and a sister-in-law Caren (Gary) Fontanarosa of Canfield.

He was preceded in death by Father, Harold C. Wightman, a sister, Janice L. Wightman and his father-in-law Charles E. Lovitz.

Family and friends will be received Monday from 5-8 pm at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland, where funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 am with Pastor Duane Bull officiating. Interment will follow at Poland Riverside Cemetery.
