New Middletown - Ralph D. Eger, 57, died unexpectedly on May 3, 2018 at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center Emergency Room.
Ralph was born April 9, 1961 in Dublin, Ohio, a son of Ralph and Amelia (Patino) Eger.
He was raised in Hilliard, Ohio until moving to Poland with his family in 1972. Ralph was a 1980 graduate of Poland Seminary High School, where he played football and basketball. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1984 with the rank of A1C.
After his military service, Ralph lived in Tacoma, Washington and Santa Ana, CA for several years, before returning to the Youngstown area. Ralph was employed for 20 years as a clerk for the United States Postal Service in the Youngstown office.
In his free time, he enjoyed playing golf and watching football, especially rooting for the Cleveland Browns and Michigan Wolverines. More than anything, Ralph loved relaxing at home with his son, Eric and dog, Ally. A people person, Ralph didn't know a stranger and loved talking to everyone. He was a true family man and Ralph will always be remembered as a dedicated and loving son, father, brother, and uncle. Some words that best describe Ralph are hard working, reliable, and everyone always knew they could count on him.
In addition to his parents, Ralph and Amelia Eger of Boardman, he is survived by his son, Eric Eger of New Middletown; two sisters, Rita (Mark) Wrisley of Woodbine, MD and Cindy Fadeley of Struthers; niece, Mia Wrisley of Woodbine, MD; nephew, Chris (Kate) Gardner of Westminster, MD; and great-nephew, Max Gardner.
Ralph was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Eger.
Family and friends will be received on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. and Thursday from 10-10:45 a.m. at the Davis-Becker Funeral Home, 8536 Market St., Boardman. A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Poland Riverside Cemetery.
