Hubbard- Ralph "Dick" Coller, Sr., 85, was taken away from his broken hearted family on October 28, 2015 at Sharon Regional Hospital following an extended illness and one last fight that he could not surmount. He was born on May 30, 1930 in Hubbard to the late Ralph Coller and Pauline Inman Coller and lived there his entire life.
Dick had a full and wonderful life that one could only wish for. When he was 17, he met his wife, Shirley (Engwer) Coller, who was 15. They married on September 27, 1952 and on that date, this year, they celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary. They were virtually inseparable and enjoyed every minute of their marriage and many ventures through the years.
Dick was proud to have served two enlistments in the United States Army in the late 40's and early 50's in Okinawa, Japan. He went on to work as a member of the Plumber's and Steamfitter's Union Local #396 in Youngstown, working on many power house projects and gas lines through the years. He was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite member of the Masonic Western Star Lodge in Youngstown for over 55 years.
Dick had many hobbies, including deer hunting each year in the mountains of Pennsylvania. His biggest passion was fishing at Pymatuning for crappie where he and his son, Ralph Jr, loved the Crappie Show Contests each year. They were very proud to have won and went on to compete in Arkansas that year. Dick and Shirley loved camping at Bayshore Campground in Andover for many years and made many wonderful friends there. The campfire stories from this time in life will never be forgotten. Dick was a sports fan and a "Mr. Fixit", who could fix just about anything, and would wonder why, if he couldn't fix it.
For over 25 years, Dick and Shirley made original crafts that are in homes all over Ohio and Pennsylvania. He designed and made clocks, which are being enjoyed from as far away as Germany. He truly enjoyed working with wood and his personal touch is enjoyed in his children's homes, as well as his own.
Last but not least on his "love to do" list was his well manicured lawn that he spent hours mowing or fixing something that needed to be perfect. Watching his beautiful flowers develop was his special past time.
He leaves behind, his wife, Shirley Coller of Hubbard; daughter, Pam Coller of Brookfield; son, Ralph (Lisa) Coller Jr. of Hartford, OH; three grandchildren, Monica Merchant of Brookfield, Rick Coller of Atlanta and Ryan (Nicky) Coller of Atlanta; one great granddaughter, Rowan Olivia Coller of Atlanta; a half sister and two brothers, including Robert "Bob" Easton of Hubbard and Dick's little fur baby, Maggie May at home.
In addition to his parents, Ralph was preceded in death by an infant son, Richard Alan Coller.
In honoring Ralph's wishes, services will be private for the family. The Davidson-Becker Funeral Home in Struthers is handling arrangements. Memorial tributes may be made, in Ralph's name, to Angels for Animals, 4750 W. South Range Rd. Canfield, OH 44406.
"Everyday we will say good morning as we see you in the sunshine and at night, we will look to the Heavens and see you in the moon and stars as we say good night."
