Hillsville, PA- Pierina DiCola, 99, died early Monday morning, July 23, 2012, at the Hospice House.
Mrs. DiCola was born January 12, 1913 in Villa Sant'Angelo, L'Aquila, Italy, a daughter of Domenico and Adelina (Sarra) D'Ascenzo. She came to the United States in 1947 and made her home in Hillsville all of her life.
Mrs. DiCola was a homemaker, who enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and gardening. She was a member of Christ the King Parish at St. Lawrence Church in Hillsville.
Her husband, Domenico DiCola, whom she married February 26, 1933, died March 4, 1997. She is survived by her son, John (Charlyn) DeCola of Warren; daughter-in-law, Janet DeCola of Poland; six grandchildren, Jean (George) Schidell of Boardman, Ron (Michelle) DeCola of Poland, Frank DeCola of Matthews, North Carolina, Vickie (John) Thompson of Avon, Patty DeCola of Poland, and Christopher DeCola of Warren; and 5 great-grandchildren, Michael Schidell, Anthony and Mia DeCola, and John and Michael Thompson.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Frank DeCola; two sisters, Clarice DeMatteis and Sestina Tomei; and two brothers, Ernest and Adolph D'Ascenzo.
A prayer service will be held Thursday at 9:30 a.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Luke Catholic Church in Boardman. Entombment will follow at Green Haven Memorial Gardens.
Family and friends will be received Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
