Phillip "Phil" Tiratto

Lowellville - Phillip "Phil" Tiratto, 87, died Saturday evening, September 23, 2017 at Hampton Woods, surrounded by family.

Phillip was born April 10, 1930 in New Castle, PA, a son of Rocco and Rose Marshall Tirotta.

He was a 1947 graduate of Bessemer High School, where he excelled in football, baseball, and track. Mr. Tiratto worked as a millwright in the BOF department at Sharon Steel, retiring in 1992 after 42 years of service.

He was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, where he was formerly an usher and member of the Men's Club. Mr. Tiratto also served as past president, vice president, treasurer, and trustee of the Mt. Carmel Society, was a member of the Johnson Club, Croatian Club, an honorary member of St. Lucy's Club, and served as Shop Steward for Local 94.

As his children were growing up, Phillip was active in their extracurricular activities and coached Lowellville Little League. In his free time, he enjoyed drawing and sketching, attending the car shows in Lowellville, and bowling in numerous leagues over the years.

A proud veteran, Mr. Tiratto served in the United States Air Force from June of 1952 until being honorably discharged in April of 1956 with the rank of Airman First Class. He was a member of the American Legion Post 247, serving as 1st Vice Commander and the VFW Post 7538, serving as Senior Vice Commander.

His wife, the former Phyllis Stephens, whom he married May 19, 1951, preceded him in death on May 17, 2005. He is survived by his daughter, Karen Levy of Columbus; two sons, Phillip Tiratto of Texas and Frank (Susan) Tiratto of Rootstown; one brother, Sam (Shirley) Tiratto of Lowellville; four grandchildren, Crystal (Troy), Amy (Mike), Jessica (Doug), and Karen; 8 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Edwina (Mike) Minnie and Ida Vrabac; and a host of nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews that he loved very much.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Catherine Ponziani and Lena Tirotta; six brothers, Alfonso "Jack" Tirotta, Ben, Dominic, Joe, and Frank Tiratto, and Rocco Sainato.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday at noon at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, 244 McGill St., Lowellville, where family and friends will be received on Saturday from 10-11:45 a.m. at the funeral home, prior to the service. Interment will be at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Cemetery.
