Youngstown - Philip Calo, 70, of Youngstown, died Monday, April 26, 2010 at his residence, surrounded by his family.

Mr. Calo was born September 11, 1939 in Campbell, a son of Philip and Angeline Leombruno Calo.

He was 1957 graduate of Ursuline High School, then enlisted in the US Air Force, where he served as a Medic, in North Africa.  Following his return home,  Mr. Calo worked as a blacksmith for Youngstown Sheet and Tube and also for Copperweld Steel, retiring in 2002 after 36 years. In 2002 he graduated from Youngstown State University, recieving his bachelor's degree in Computer Science.   Mr. Calo was a Catholic by faith.  He was a member of Salisbury Sportsmen Club, the American Legion, the Elks and a former member of the Eagles.  He loved fishing especially in Lake Erie and hunting, and an avid Cleveland Indian and Browns fan.

He is survived by his wife, the former Thelma Manankil, whom he married July 27, 1970, two sons, Angelo "Paco" Calo of Cleveland; Philip "Teddy" Calo of Youngstown, and his son Caleb Edwards-Calo; and two sisters, his twin sister, Angeline Henry of Boardman and Mary Sandy of Boardman.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Rita Stroup.

Family and friends will be received Saturday from 11:00 - 12:00 pm at the St. Christine Church, 3165 S. Schenley Ave in Youngstown, where a Memorial Mass will be at 12:00.

Arrangements are by the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home in Struthers.
