New Middletown - Peter R. Serich, 75, of New Middletown, died Saturday, April 5, 2008 at his residence. Mr. Serich was born October 11, 1932 in Struthers, a son of John and Alice Bompage Serich. Mr. Serich was a 1950 graduate of Struthers High School. He was a veteran of the Korean War, where he served in the United States Air Force. He received the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and the Air Crew Member Badge. Mr. Serich received his bachelorâa�a��s degree from Youngstown State University and his masterâa�a��s degree from Westminster College. He was a school teacher for Springfield Local School District, Struthers School District, Girard City School District, and Shaker Heights School District. He also worked as a counselor for the Ohio Bureau of Employment Services. Mr. Serich was a member of the Struthers Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon. He also volunteered at Forum Health North Side Medical Center. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, the former Betty Lou Polen, whom he married December 19, 1953; two sons, Ron (Betty) Serich of Youngstown and Scott (Christine) Serich of Leesburg, VA; one daughter, Lynda (Scott) Baita of Rochester, NH; six grandchildren, Jason (Dorothy) Reynolds, Christopher (Heather) Reynolds, Janice Baita, Angela Baita, Dalton Baita, and Corinne Baita; seven great-grandchildren, Ashley, Taylor, Tyler, Jack, Nicholas, Makayla, and Madisyn; and three brothers, George (Julia) Serich of Poland, Robert (Eleanor) Serich of Jacksonville, FL, and Richard (Irene) Serich of Irvine, CA. Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Mary Ann Plevnic. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at the Struthers Presbyterian Church with Pastor Steve Breazier officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Friends will be received Wednesday from 3-7 p.m. at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, Struthers and Thursday from 9-9:45 a.m. at the church.
