Peter Copploe

Peter Copploe, 86 Poland- Peter Copploe, 86, of Poland, passed away Sunday afternoon at Caprice Health Center. Mr. Copploe was born November 15, 1920, in Youngstown, a son of Michael and Felicia Copploe. He was raised in Youngstown and moved to Austintown in 1954 and to Poland in 1994. He attended South High School and in 1942 enlisted in the United States Army during World War II. His rank was Staff Sergeant and he interpreted German Code for Intelligence purposes Before and after the war, Mr. Copploe worked for Kings Jewelry. In 1949 he began a watch repair shop which later became Copploe Jewelers on Mahoning Ave. He retired in 1989 after 40 years. Mr. Copploe was a musician, playing both the accordion and keyboard. He began playing nightclubs at the age of 15 and later formed the Pete Copploe Orchestra. His band played for weddings, dances and various night clubs in the area, including the Manhattan in Hubbard for nine years. Mr. Copploe enjoyed bowling and golfing. He especially enjoyed family gatherings. His wife, the former Virginia Gennaro, whom he married September 15, 1951, died October 2, 1995. He leaves two daughters, Cindy (James) Cleeland and Lisa (Gary) Lasko all of Poland; one sister Rose Pechalk of Austintown; and four grandchildren, Laura and Matthew Ladymon and Erik and Elise Lasko. Besides his parents and wife, Mr. Copploe was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph and Vincent Copploe. Funeral services will be Thursday, 9:30 AM at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland and 10:00 AM at Holy Family Church, also in Poland.
