Poland - Peter J. Barone, 85, of Poland, formerly of Lowellville, died Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at Hospice House. Peter was born September 6, 1922 in Struthers, Ohio, a son of Ralph and Rose Morell Barone. He was a lifelong area resident. In his later years, Peter resided with his niece, Constance Barone-Likens, and her husband, Joseph, in Lowellville prior to his residency at Sunrise Assisted Living in Poland. A graduate of Struthers High School, Peter worked as an electronic technician at Goodyear Aerospace in Akron for the Department of Defense and Logistics, where he worked on guidance systems for missiles. Peter was a United States Army veteran serving during World War II. He was a former member of St. Nicholas Church in Struthers. Peter was an avid golfer and bowler and belonged to several leagues throughout the area. One of the highlights of his life was working with his brother, Alfred, at the Fermi Laboratory in Chicago, where they worked on a prototype of the so-called "super-collider." Peter leaves two sisters, Toni Tallerino and Mary Ann (Thomas) Caccamo, both of Syracuse, NY; two brothers, Edward (Geverna) Barone of Lowellville and Frank (Sandy) Barone of Maryland; an uncle, Albert Morell of Youngstown; and numerous nieces and nephews, whom he lovingly convinced were each his favorite. His outgoing personality and gentle spirit led to his being "Uncle Pete" to both family and friends. Besides his parents, Peter was preceded in death by three sisters, Clara Ferrara, Jennie DeLauder, and Vera Conti; and three brothers, Vincent, Joseph, and Alfred Barone. A funeral Mass will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church. Interment will follow in St. John Cemetery. Friends will be received Monday from 5-8 p.m. at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, Struthers, where a prayer service will be held Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. The family requests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions in Peter's name to Hospice House, 9803 Sharrott Road, Poland, Ohio 44514.
