Pauline E. Sheban

Pauline E. Sheban, 92, died peacefully surrounded by her family on September 28, 2017. Pauline was born December 12, 1924 in New Castle, PA, a daughter of Abraham and Jamila Rashid.
She was a graduate of New Castle High School and attended Youngstown State University. She was primarily a homemaker, but worked for two local doctors- Dr. John Zimmerman and Dr. Gary Bitonte. Pauline also volunteered for many years at Akron Children's Hospital. She was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Church.
Polly was a great cook and found new ways to incorporate a stick (or two) of butter in most any recipe. She was always under the impression that no one around her had eaten in days and they were probably starving. For years Polly attended high school sporting events but always closed her eyes and never actually saw a play. She loved antique hunting and became a avid gardener in her later years.
Her husband, Karam, whom she married in 1946, died in 1968.
She is survived by four sons, James F. Sheban of Brooklyn, Terry Sheban of Youngstown, Christopher (Lynne) Sheban of Chicago, and Jeffrey C. (Anne) Sheban of Columbus; daughter-in-law, Janet Sheban of St. Louis, MO; one brother, Carl (Helen) Rashid of New Castle; one sister, Carol (Richard) Adams of New Castle; seven grandchildren, Chris (Merideth Throop) Sheban, Kara (Derek) Sheban Shia, Molly Sheban, Laura Sheban, Karam Sheban, Caitie Sheban, and Mara Sheban; five great-grandchildren, Reed, Keaton, Madison, Cormac, and Beckett.
Besides her husband and parents, Pauline was preceded in death by one son, Ronald K. Sheban, two sisters, Ida Hilton and Lorice Rashid. She greatly missed her dear companion of many years, Alex Downie, Jr. and his wonderful family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Charles Borromeo Church, Monday at 10:00 AM, with Fr. Phillip Rogers officiating (everyone please meet at the church).
Friends and family will be received Sunday 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Davis-Becker Funeral Home, 8536 Market St., Boardman.
Although flowers are beautiful the family requests donations be made to the American Heart Association.
