Paul Joseph Tkacik

Poland - Paul Joseph Tkacik, 84, of Sunrise Assisted Living of Poland, formerly of New Middletown, died Tuesday afternoon at the Hospice of the Valley, Hospice House.

Paul was born June 4, 1926 in Youngstown, a son of Joseph and Frances Tkacik and was raised on the family farm in New Middletown.

A 1944 graduate of Springfield Local High School, Paul was owner of Tkacik Construction Company and a member of Local A Bricklayers. He was a member of the SNPJ Lodge, Bessemer Croatian Club, and the Johnson Club. He was a long-time supporting member of the Springfield Township Baseball Association and a former volunteer of the New Middletown Fire Department. Paul had many interests including golfing, bowling, bocce, and hunting and was a huge fan of polka music. He was a former charter member of the St. Paul the Apostle Church in New Middletown and a member of St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church in Struthers.

His wife, the former Josephine Fabian, whom he married September 10, 1949 died May 11, 2003. He is survived by three daughters, Paulette (Robert) Babyak of Poland, Patricia (Charles) Hanna also of Poland, and Janet (Timothy) Flaherty of Pickerington, OH; one son, Paul (Denise) Tkacik of Poland; one sister, Eleanor Zelina of Erie, PA; eight grandchildren, Michael and Mark Babyak, Christopher and Rebecca Hanna, Sean and Sarah Flaherty, and Alexa and Nicholas Tkacik.

Besides his parents and wife, Paul was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Baskey and Anne Sasser; and one brother, Joseph Tkacik.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday 10:00 AM at St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church with Fr. Bernard Bonnot officiating. Interment will follow at St. John the Baptist Cemetery.

Friends will be received Friday from 5-8 PM at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland where a Prayer Service will be Saturday at 9:15 AM.

The family would like to thank the staff of Sunrise Assisted Living and Hospice House for their wonderful care and compassion toward Paul.
