Paul E. Stevens Paul Edward Stevens, 88, of Poland, Ohio, died on Saturday, March 12, 2005. He was born on July 22, 1916, in Youngstown to the late Raymond U. and Mary Ann (Pritchard) Stevens. On March 9, 1946, he married the former Janet L. Weisert, who survives. Also surviving is their son, Mark (Susan Amidon) Stevens of Columbus, and their grandson, Dylan Stevens. Paul graduated from South High School in Youngstown. Paul was a practicing attorney in Youngstown for over 60 years, since graduating from The Ohio State University and The Ohio State University Law School in 1941. While at OSU, he was on the Varsity Tennis Team, a member of Varsity O, and was President of the Independent Menâa�a��s Association. Paul enlisted in the United States Army in February, 1942, and he was honorably discharged in January, 1946, as a special agent with the military intelligence forces. He returned to the law offices of Falls, Hazel and Kerr. He was then a partner in Stevens, Luckart, Mumaw, Morrisroe, and Zellers; Green, Schiavoni, Murphy & Stevens from 1962-71; a partner in Burdman, Stevens & Gilliland from 1971-75; Stevens and Toot, from 1976-77; and the Paul E. Stevens Co, from 1977-2002. A Professor of Law at Youngstown College School of Law from 1946-60, he also served as general counsel for the Animal Charity League of Ohio from 1946-2002; was secretary of CASTLO Community Improvement Corporation from 1986-2002; and a Poland Township Trustee from 1960-1969. As a tennis player, he was inducted into the Curbstone Coaches Hall of Fame in 1974. He was the Republican candidate for Congress in 1959, and served as the Administrative Assistant to Democratic Congressman Charles J. Carney, 19th Ohio district, from 1970-1980. He was named Welsh Man of the Year by the St. Davidâa�a��s Society in 1988, and was President of the Welsh National Gymanfa Ganu Association from 1988-1990. He was also a member of the American Bar Association, the Ohio Bar Association (Chairman of the Membership Committee, 1955), the Mahoning County Bar Association (President, 1953-54), and the Mahoning County Planning Association (Chairman, 1990-1998). He was a member of the Youngstown Unitarian Universalist Church. A private family memorial service will be held at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, with interment at the Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
