Poland - Paul Mason Shipsky, 69, of Howell Drive in Poland, died on February 14, 2019 at Masternick Memorial Health Care Center in New Middletown.

Paul was born on June 5, 1949 in Youngstown, a son of John and Ruth (Knudtson) Shipsky. He was preceded in death by his parents and survived by his brothers, Jack (Gwen), Bill, Bob, and Jim (Kylie); his sisters, Marilyn Jones and Sue (Bob) Shipsky; his former wife and friend, Linda Laska Shipsky; 8 nieces and nephews and 8 grand nieces and grand nephews.

Raised in Poland on Evergreen Drive, Paul went to Holy Family grade school and then attended Poland Seminary High School. He lettered twice in football and graduated from Poland in 1968. Paul was known for being a hard worker, and he worked a variety of different jobs throughout his life.

He began learning how to do construction work from his father when he was a boy. After graduation, he worked at two Youngstown steel mills then moved to Colorado for a few years, where he did road construction. At different times, he had been a member of four labor unions-steelworkers, laborers, carpenters, and roofers.  He was a commercial roofer for most of his life. Paul was self-employed as a residential roofer for many years and is remembered for his generosity. He often did roofs at no charge for friends and family. Paul retired from Roth Brothers, where he was a faithful employee for about 20 years.

He enjoyed frequenting local taverns, where he had a large circle of close friends. One of his fondest memories was attending the Woodstock Music Festival and he often reminisced about it. Paul also had a collection of guns and was fond of skeet shooting.

A memorial service celebrating Paul's life will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2019 at 4 p.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, 270 N. Main St., Poland. Following the service, family and friends will be greeted in the Becker Family Center, where dinner will be served.
