Boardman - Paul James Paris, 91, of Boardman, formerly of Struthers, died Monday morning at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center.
Paul was born August 5, 1922 in Struthers, a son of James and Josephine Spadaro Paris and was a life-long resident of Struthers until moving to Boardman in 1996.
Paul was a graduate of Struthers High School Class of 1940. In 1942 he proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II where he served in the Pacific Theatre, Attu island, Alaska and Pearl Harbor.
After the war, Paul returned to his much loved home, Struthers. He took over his father's shop, Paris shoe store in Struthers and expanded it to men's and boy's wear and the store became Paris Men's Shop. He retired in 1986 after 45 years of service.
Paul was a member of the Struthers Knights of Columbus, Struthers VFW Post #3538 and the former Struthers Business Association.
Paul was a very loyal and one of the most active members of the Struthers Rotary Club where he was a charter member since 1955. He chaired all four Avenues, was President in 1959 and was the first Struthers Rotarian to receive the very prestigious Paul Harris Fellow. Until two weeks ago, Paul was present for every Tuesday noon meeting leading in song, volunteering his time at every fundraiser, and was in charge of the 4th of July Rotary Float which took first place in the Struthers 4th of July Parade in 2012.
Paul was a faithful member of Christ Our Savior Parish at St. Nicholas Church in Struthers. He served as Usher, Commentator, and Eucharistic Minister. Paul was a member of the Cursillo Movement where he served as Rector of the Men's Cursillo 44.
His wife of 64 years, the former Marian Zerbonia, whom he married August 21, 1947 died November 28, 2010. He leaves one daughter, Sandra (Robert) DelQuadri of Avon Lake; two sons, Paul Paris of Poland, Joseph (Phyllis) Paris of Poland; five granddaughters, Marianne (Lee) Rhoades of Plano, TX, Pamela (Tony) Mancini of Canton, OH, Angela Paris and Jessica Paris, both of Gahanna, OH, Kimberly Paris of Twinsburg, OH; two great-granddaughters, Mackenzie and Natalie Rhoades; three sisters, Rose Perry, Helen Flauto, Sr. M.Gertrude Paris, OSU; sister-in-law, Florence Zerbonia; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Paul also leaves many special friends, including Frank Senary and Shannon Boila.
Besides his parents and wife, Paul was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Paris; daughter-in-law, Alma Paris, and granddaughter, Jamie Paris.
Paul was known by all as a loyal, considerate gentleman. He would do anything for his family, friends, his church, and for the community of Struthers.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, 10:00 AM at Christ Our Savior Parish at St. Nicholas Church in Struthers with Fr. Bernard Bonnot officiating. Interment will follow at the Calvary Cemetery, Youngstown, Ohio.
Friends will be received Friday from 5-8 PM at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland where a Prayer Service will be held Saturday at 9:15 AM.
