Paul Wayne McEvey, Jr., 78 Poland- Paul Wayne McEvey, Jr., 78 passed away early Tuesday morning at his Katahdin Drive Home. He was born August 19, 1926 at the family home on Dewey Ave. in Youngstown, to Paul Wayne McEvey and Carolyn Bates MvEvey, and was their only child. He graduated from South High School in June of 1944 and then enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving in the Philippines awaiting the invasion of Japan. After discharge from the Army, he attended John Carroll University in University Heights and graduated in 1959 with a degree in education. He served as an officer in the Army for two years in Germany during the Korean Conflict. He began his teaching career in Windham and then moved on to Springfield Local, Lisbon, West Branch and finally United Local Schools. He retired after 25 years of service. He was a member of the Holy Family Church in Poland, where he ushered Sunday Mass in his later years. He was also a member of the Poland Knights of Columbus. He loved Poland and made his home there for 42 years. He was a great fan of Poland High School athletics, both boys and girls, and followed the teams whenever he could. He was field announcer at Polandâa�a��s home football games for nine years. He greatly missed the games and the chance to interact with the coaches and players as his health declined.
