Lowellville - Patsy Joseph Iudiciani Sr., 81 of West Wood Street, passed away Saturday, August 8, 2009 at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center, with his family at his side.
Mr. Iudiciani was born October 12, 1927 in Lowellville, a son of Felix and Catherine D'Eramo Iudiciani.
He was a 1946 graduate of Lowellville High School, where he played basketball, football and was inducted in the Lowellville High School Hall of Fame. He was a member of the Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church. Mr. Iudiciani worked for the Ohio Department of Transportation as a Construction Project Supervisor, retiring in 1991 after 33 years. He also served as Lowellville police chief and patrolman as well as Village Administrator for over a span of 25 years. Mr. Iudiciani enjoyed gardening and canning vegetables with his wife, wine making, and operating a lawnmower repair business. His family reaped the benefits of his many talents as he was a true Mr. Fix it, helping his children and grandchildren with their homes. He truly enjoyed helping people and giving back to the community of Lowellville. He was one of the founders of the Lowellville Little League Baseball. Mr. Iudiciani enjoyed watching his children perform in sports and music, and the same is true of his grandchildren. As captain of his 1945 undefeated football team he was nicked name "Small but Mighty". He had a lot of pride in watching his son, Pat, and grandchildren, Tony, Christopher and James, Jr., play for undefeated Lowellville football teams as well. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy, and served in the Seabees, and was stationed in California.
He leaves his wife, the former Dorothy Shevetz, whom he married October 7, 1948 one daughter Catherine (Anthony) Russo of Canfield; two sons Patsy (Theresa) Iudiciani Jr. of Poland and Mayor James (Annette) Iudiciani, Sr. of Lowellville; six grandchildren, Tony (Brandy) Russo, Christopher (Fianceé Amanda) Russo, James Iudiciani Jr., Jacquelyn Iudiciani, Audrey (fiancé Heath) Iudiciani and Dominic Iudiciani
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son; three brothers, Venanzio "Bananas" Iudiciani, Geno Iudiciani, and Felix "Babe" Iudiciani, Jr., and a infant granddaughter, Christina Russo.
Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday at 10:30 am at the Our Lady of Holy Rosary Church with Rev. G. David Weikart officiating. Interment will follow at the Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Cemetery, where military honors will be provided by the United States Navy.
Family and friends will be received Tuesday from 1-3 and 6-8 at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Lowellville, and Wednesdsay morning from 9:30 till the time of prayers at 10:00 am.
The Iudiciani family would like to thank the doctors and staff of both the Fresenius Medical Care at the Belmont Avenue location, and at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center.
