Parke S. Bloyer

June 11, 1925 — March 7, 2014

Poland-Parke S. Bloyer, 88, died Friday evening, March 7, 2014 at Shepherd of the Valley in Boardman.

He was born June 11, 1925 in Denbo, PA, a son of the late George S. and Ellen Mae (Hyatt) Bloyer.

Parke was a graduate of Charleroi High School in Charleroi, PA. He enlisted in the United States Navy in March of 1943 at the age of 17, serving during World War II. He attended aviation school, radar school, aviation gunnery school, and had operational training in torpedo planes. He joined the VC90, a fighter and torpedo squadron, and served aboard the carrier CVE87, the USS Steamer Bay. While aboard, he served in the invasions of Lingayan Gulf in the Philippines, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa. Parke had 47 combat missions and was awarded The Distinguished Flying Cross and four air medals, flying aboard Navy TBF Torpedo Bomber as radioman, radar operator, and tail gunner. He turned 20 years old in Pearl Harbor when he was on his way home from overseas. Parke was honorably discharged from the United States Navy in March of 1946.

Upon his return from the service, Parke enrolled at Youngstown College and received his bachelor's degree in business in 1951. He worked as a chief cost estimator and assistant sales manager for the William B. Pollock Company for 32 years. After retirement, Mr. Bloyer worked as a consultant for Alliance Machine for a number of years.


Mr. Bloyer was a F&AM and member of the Youngstown Masonic Lodge No. 615, now Wick Lodge, where he served as Past Master in 1964. Parke was of the Lutheran faith.

He leaves his wife, the former Joycelyn Kish, whom he married February 5, 1949; sister, Shirley Chew of Belle Vernon, PA; and granddaughter, Victoria Bloyer of Japan.

In addition to his parents, Parke was preceded in death by a daughter, Jill Virgallito; two sons, Parke S. Bloyer, Jr. and Jon Scott Bloyer; and two sisters, Marilyn Hannen and Alverna Bloyer.

A private memorial service will be held for the family. Interment will be at Tod Homestead Cemetery.

Arrangements are being handled by the Davis-Becker Funeral Home in Boardman.
