Poland - Owen F. "Pinky" Altimus, 90, died July 16, 2012 at his residence .
Mr.Altimus was born August 25, 1921 in Struthers, a son of James C. and Ruth L. Ware Altimus.
He was a Struthers High School graduate who worked for the Electric Equipment Company in Youngstown for 22 years, and then went on to work at Republic Steel as a Millwright in the Truscon Division for another 22 years before retiring..
He attended the Struthers United Methodist Church and was a member of the American Legion and AFL-CIO; and was also a lifetime member of the DAV.
Mr. Altimus was a veteran of the US Army during WW II, where he served in Italy. He received a Purple Heart, one overseas bar, and a EAME Theater Ribbon.
He was a fan of NASCAR and enjoyed his Cushman motorcycle, but what made him the happiest was in his boat on a lake and spending time with his family.
His wife, the former Betty Williams, whom he married June 10,1944, died March 30, 1993.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law Sharyn and Chuck Kennedy of Struthers; a grandson, Todd (Wendy) Kennedy of Boardman; a granddaughter, Beth (Max) Fightmaster of Canal Fulton; six great-grandchildren, Daniel, Zakary, and Patrick Kennedy; and Madison, Keely, and Taylor Fightmaster; a brother-in-law Joseph H. Dickey Jr. of North Lima; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
Services will be held Thursday 11AM at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland. Friends may call Thursday from 9-10:45AM at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with military honors. .
