ORCHARD LAKE, MI-Olive "Sis" Stewart Brewster, 81, passed away peacefully January 10, 2012 at her home with her family by her side.
Olive was born November 13, 1930 in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Burton H. and Laurabelle Stewart Smith.
She was a 1948 graduate of Poland Seminary High School and graduated from Lake Erie College for Women in 1953 with degrees in Home Economics and Health and Physical Education. Prior to her marriage, Olive worked at the YWCA in Youngstown as a swimming teacher. While there, she organized the Spray Club, which was a synchronized swim club.
Olive enjoyed playing bridge every Thursday, water sports, antiquing, gardening, playing the piano, entertaining and being with family and friends.
She leaves her husband, Robert Brewster, whom she married June 24, 1954; a daughter, Dr. Leigh Brewster of Sylvan Lake, MI; son, Robert (Maureen) Brewster, Jr. of Jackson, MI; two grandchildren, Elaine and David Brewster; brother, Burton J."Jack" Smith of North Canton; sister, Alcey Shultz of Poland; three brothers-in-law, Skip Brewster, Lee (Cindy) Brewster, and John (Dorothy) Brewster, all of Painesville; and six nieces and nephews, Blake (Barbara), Brad (Vanessa), Keith (April), Jennifer (Stephen), Mike (Laura) and Heather (Jim); and 13 great nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters-in-law, Leatha Brewster and June Smith; and brother-in-law, Jack Shultz.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 4, 2012 at 1 p.m. at the Poland Riverside Cemetery.
The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions in Olive's name to a charity of their choice.
