HUNTSVILLE ALA. - Olga G. Diaz, 88, died early Monday morning, June 30, 2014, at Huntsville Hospital in Alabama surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Diaz was born July 2, 1925, in Campbell, a daughter of John and Helen
(Tomari) Gecse.
She was a 1943 graduate of Campbell Memorial High School. Mrs. Diaz worked for Mazda Lamp Works and at the Youngstown Sheet and Tube Company during World War II. She joined the Women¹s Army Corps (WAC) during the Korean War and was stationed at Ft. Myer, Va. and Panama Canal Zone. From 1973 to 1993, she worked at General Motors until her retirement. Mrs. Diaz lived in Campbell for 40 years and moved to Poland in 1965. She most recently moved to live with her son in Huntsville, Ala. in 2013.
Mrs. Diaz was a member of the Hungarian Presbyterian Church in Youngstown and the Presbyterian Women and United Auto Workers.
She is survived by her two sons, Norbert (Claudia) Diaz of Huntsville, Robert (Melissa) Diaz of Poland; three granddaughters, Captain (USAF) Hannah Diaz of Aviano, Italy, Hilary (Michael) Newland of Nashville, and Helaina Diaz of Huntsville; one grandson, Colton Diaz of Poland; and sister Julia Gott of Huntsville.
Besides her parents, Mrs. Diaz was preceded in death by sister, Irene
(Robert) Eppley, and two brothers, John (Irene) and Frank Getchey.
Family and Friends will be received from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 3, at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, 270 N. Main St., Poland.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 5, at 10 a.m. at the Hungarian Presbyterian Church in Youngstown. Interment will follow at the Tod Homestead Cemetery in Youngstown.
The family requests that memorial gifts be made in Mrs. Diaz¹s name to the Hungarian Presbyterian Church, 745 Mahoning Ave., Youngstown, OH 44502.
