New Middletown - Nick Drajic, 75, of New Middletown, died Friday evening, November 5, 2010 at the Hospice House.
Nick was born March 8, 1935 in Youngstown, a son of Nicholas and Anna Sirak Drajic. At a young age, his father passed and he was raised by his stepfather, Ernest Arnold. Nick has lived in New Middletown since 1959.
He was a 1954 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School. Nick first worked at the Petersburg Creamery for 17 years until it's closing and part-time as street commissioner for New Middletown. He retired from Schwebel Baking Company in 1999 after 22 years of service.
He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church of New Middletown and a former volunteer fireman for New Middletown.
Nick's greatest joy in life was spending time with his three grandchildren and family. He took pride in manicuring and tending to his yard, enjoyed watching NASCAR and football, and especially loved traveling to the beach with family and friends throughout the years. While on vacation, he enjoyed walking every morning six to eight miles up and down the beach.
He leaves his wife, the former Shirley Smith, whom he married June 8, 1957; his son, Nick Drajic Jr. of New Middletown; his daughter, Sheri (Paul) Elliott of Newton Falls; three grandchildren, Jarrett Drajic of Oro Valley, AZ and Sage and Logan Elliott of Newton Falls; sister, Anna (Tony) Caizza of Youngstown; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and stepfather, he was preceded in death by two brothers, George and Steve Drajic.
Services will be held Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church of New Middletown at 11 a.m. with the Pastor Larry Klinker officiating. Interment will follow at Petersburg Cemetery.
Family and friends will be received Monday from 5-8 p.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland and Tuesday from 10-10:45 at the church.
