Lowellville - Nicholas Basista, Sr., 85, of Lowellville, Ohio, passed away peacefully at his residence Saturday morning, July 28, 2018.
Nicholas was born December 13, 1932 in Struthers, OH, a son of George and Mary Basista.
A 1952 graduate of Struthers High School, Nicholas excelled in high school sports, especially football. After graduation Nicholas enlisted in the United States Navy and served during the Korean Conflict from 1952 until 1956. While serving in the Navy, Nick met his wife, the former Elva Lorraine Roesler whom he married June 16, 1956 at North Island Naval Air Station in San Diego, CA. Returning to the area Nick worked as a lineman for Ohio Edison for 35 years. Nicholas was a member of St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church.
Nicholas was a devoted family man, very loving and kind person to everyone and will be dearly missed. The family would like to thank Dr. Denis R. Lunne and staff at Prima Health Care and Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, Joseph Mersol and Judge Lanzo for their friendship.
Nicholas leaves his wife, Elva Lorraine at home; three sons, Nicholas Basista, Jr. of Lowellville, William J. (Rachilla) Basista of Struthers, and George Lawrence Basista also of Lowellville; six grandchildren, Brandi, Ashley, Emily, Angela, Anthony and Danielle Basista; and four great grandchildren.
Nicholas was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, George , John, Joseph, William and Mike Basista; and five sisters, Helen Hritz, Mary Ovar, Ann and Catherine Basista, and Elizabeth Rosen.
A private graveside service was held Thursday at St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Lowellville.
