Struthers - Neal E. Moore, 90, of Struthers, died Sunday evening, June 9, 2013 at Hospice of the Valley, Hospice House.
Neal, affectionately known as "Satch", was born September 6, 1922 in Struthers, a son of Earl and Marie Taylor Moore. A life-long resident of Struthers, Neal lived in the family home until recently moving to Lowellville to live with his niece Cindy and her family.
A 1941 graduate of Struthers High School, Neal enlisted in the United States Army during World War II and served in the South Pacific. Returning to Struthers, Neal worked at Lehigh Safety Shoes and Kelly Myer Paving.
Neal loved fishing, hunting and spending time at his cabin. He enjoyed playing the horses and he and his friend Boch attended over 40 Kentucky Derby races and were regulars at the former Ladbrooks now known as The Meadows in New Castle.
His wife, the former Betty Glass Thomas, whom he married May 14, 1977, died July 17, 1991. Neal is survived by two sisters, Phyllis Wilson of Cincinnati and Rosemary Emery of Erie, PA; sister-in-law, Antonette Glass; daughter-in-law, Marianne Thomas; two step-grandchildren, Paul and Patrick Thomas; one stepson, Ray Thomas; numerous nieces and nephews including Cindy (Greg) Hynes with whom he made his home in Lowellville; and his special friend, Frank Bochenek of Struthers.
Besides his parents and wife, Neal was preceded in death by his step-son, Tommy Thomas; three brothers, Earl Jr., Dana, and Jake Moore; and one sister, Francena Codrea.
Neal was a great and loving uncle who taught many of his nieces and nephews to hunt and fish. They also had a great time playing cards and betting the horses with him.
Funeral services will be held Friday, 11:00 AM at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, Struthers, with Fr. Fred Trucksis officiating. Interment will follow at the Riverside Cemetery in Poland.
Friends will be received Thursday from 4-7 PM at the funeral home.
