Poland - Nancy J. Whitmore, 83, of Poland, died Friday afternoon, October 30, 2015 at Assumption Village.
Nancy was born February 7, 1932 in Youngstown, a daughter of the late John and Retha Hellman Thomas.
Raised in Youngstown, Nancy was a 1950 graduate of South High School. She was employed in the parts department for Strausbaugh Motor Company for 2 1/2 years. She then worked in sales for Strouss Hirshberg Company and later as an inventory manager for Hills Department Store.
Nancy was considered the matriarch of the family. She knew every birthday, every anniversary, every date that marked a special occasion in someone's life. A loving and caring person, Nancy always had concern for other people, but not herself. She loved to cook, shop and had a terrific sense of humor.
She especially adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She leaves her husband of over 64 years, Charles Whitmore, whom she married March 31, 1951; one daughter, Kim (Jose) Campos of Boardman; two sons, Kip Whitmore of Boardman and Kris (Debora) Whitmore of Poland; four grandchildren, Jason, Ross, and Marc Whitmore and Brielle Campos; and three great-grandchildren, Alex, Cooper and Kristopher Whitmore.
Nancy was preceded in death by her sister, Joyce Davis; brother, Dick Thomas; and daughter-in- law, Doris Jane Whitmore.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 7, 4:00 PM at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland, with Pastor Robert Quaintance officiating. Family and friends will be received Saturday from 1:00 PM to 3:45 PM at the funeral home.
