NEW SPRINGFIELD - Nancy M. (Coleman) Slaven, 74, formerly of Struthers, died unexpectedly Tuesday morning, Oct. 28, 2014, at her home.
Mrs. Slaven was born Feb. 13, 1940, in Youngstown, a daughter of Francis and Edwina Wagner Coleman. She lived in Struthers for over 40 years, until moving to New Springfield in 2003.
She was a graduate of Poland Seminary High School. After raising her children, Mrs. Slaven began working for the Struthers School System as a bus driver and dispatcher, retiring in 2003 after 25 years of service. Nancy was a member of the Ohio Association of Public School Employees.
For many years, Mrs. Slaven ran her own ceramic shop out of her home in Struthers and taught classes. Nancy also enjoyed traveling, camping, going to the casinos, and spoiling her pets over the years, especially her dog, Mitzy.
She is survived by her husband, Roy William Slaven Jr., whom she married Sept. 3, 1959; two sons, Shawn (Carolyn) Slaven of Leetonia and Robert Slaven of Struthers; two grandchildren, Matthew Slaven of Poland and Nicole Slaven of Leetonia; and uncle and aunt Jim and Ellen McMurray of Poland.
In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by her grandson, Justin Slaven.
A funeral service will be held Friday at 7 p.m. at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, 11 Spring St. in Struthers. Interment will be at Lake Park Cemetery.
Family and friends will be received Friday from 5 until 6:45 p.m. at the funeral home, prior to the service.
