Struthers - Myra L. Reddinger, 69, of Struthers, died Thursday, September 4, 2008 at her residence, 145 Harvey Street. Myra was born October 11, 1938 in Tidal, Pennsylvania, a daughter of the late Thomas and Crete Bowser Minick. She was raised in Tidal, PA and came to this area in 1957. She was a 1956 graduate of Red Bank Valley High School and was the first woman to graduate from the Mahoning County Police Officer School in 1965. Myra served on the Struthers Police Force for 32 years. She was appointed Special Duty Sheriff in 1967 and 1977 and was promoted to sergeant, August 1, 1983. Myra retired in 1997 after 32 years of service. Myra was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and the National Rifle Association. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society and the former Esquire Club in Struthers. When serving with the Struthers Police Department, Myra initiated the Drug Education Program, teaching in local schools and Youngstown State University. Myra fought for what she believed in, she was a well known activist for the citizens, young and old, and for the community of Struthers. Besides her husband, Donald E. Reddinger whom she married May 10, 1957; she leaves two sons, Jeff (Brigitte) Reddinger of Dearborn, MI and Todd (Darlene) Reddinger of Sharpsville, PA; seven grandchildren, Joshua Reddinger, Nathan Floyd, Thomas Reddinger, Nicole Floyd, Jamie Reddinger, Cody Reddinger, and Matt Walker; and two sisters, Helen Crissman of Lower Burrel, PA and Lenora (Sis) Slaugenhaupt of Rimersburg, PA. A committal service will be held Monday 11:00 a.m. at the Tidal Union Cemetery in Tidal, Pennsylvania with Rev. Don Hamilton officiating. Friends will be received Sunday from 3-6 p.m. at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, Struthers, OH.
