Mrs. Winifred L. Tarr

Winifred L. Tarr, 88 of Cortland, formerly of Struthers died Tuesday evening at the Hospice House in Poland.
Winifred, affectionately known as Winnie, was born November 20, 1922 in Lowellville, a daughter of Herbert and Iva Matthews Jones. Winnie lived in Struthers most of her life until moving to Mercer for 10 years then to Cortland for 12 years.
A 1941 graduate of Struthers High School, Winnie worked at Isaly's, both on Fifth Street and Midlothian Blvd., Creed the Cleaners, and Super X Drug Store. Winnie was a wonderful wife and mother. She was a Girl Scout Leader, Cub Scout Leader, and served as PTA President for both the Struthers Fifth Street School and for Struthers High School. Family vacations involved traveling by tent and by motor home throughout the United States. Winnie enjoyed crafting, knitting, playing cards and bingo. She loved watching hockey and football and was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers. Winnie loved people and people loved Winnie.
She was a member of the Struthers United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Women's Society and while living in Cortland, Winnie attended the Cortland United Methodist Church.
Her husband Frederick J. Tarr whom she married February 5, 1946 died August 4, 2005. She leaves one daughter, Melodee (Terry) Chapin of Cortland; one son, Frederick (Barbara)Tarr of Aistintown; nine grandchildren, Tracea (Mike) Bolin, Ashlee Chapin, Morgan Chapin, Tabitha Tarr, Kelly Tarr, Christi Tarr, Michael Dailey, Jennifer Mullen, and Mark Dailey; and nine great-grandsons.
Besides her parents and husband, Winnie was preceded in death by her brother, Ernest Jones and granddaughter, Wendy Tarr.
A Memorial Service will be held Friday, 2:00 PM at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, Struthers, where friends may call from 1-2 PM. A Memorial Service will also be held in Cortland, Saturday, 2:00 PM at the Cortland United Methodist Church, 155 N. High Street, Cortland, OH 44410.
The family request memorial contributions take the form of gifts to Hospice of the Valley Hospice House, 9803 Sharrott Rd., Poland, Ohio 44514.
