Poland - Miriam Slayton, 67 of Youngstown-Poland Road, passed away Saturday, September 19, 2009 at the Hospice House, with her daughter Helen at her side.
Mrs. Slayton was born June 28, 1942 in Charleston, SC, a daughter of Lawrence and Helen (Waring) Swinton.
Besides being a homemaker, Mrs. Slayton worked as a Ward Clerk at the USC Medical Center, in Los Angeles for 10 years. She enjoyed watching her daughter as a cheer leader, where she was the cheer mom, and enjoyed watching her son, play football. She loved listening to Gospel, R & B and hip music, cooking, where she was known for her gumbo, catfish, and southern fried chicken. She was always active in her children's lives, and always supported them in there various extracaricular activies. She will be deeply missed by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all who knew her.
Her husband Charles E. Slayton Sr., whom she married January 31, 1963, died June 16, 1993.
She is survived by one son Larry J. Slayton of Las Vegas, NV; one daughter, Helen K. (Jason) Davis of Poland, OH; numerous grandchildren and several Great-Grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Charles E. Slayton Jr..
Family and friends will be received Monday from 11:00 to 11:45 am at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, in Poland, where memorial services will he held at 12:00 noon.
