POLAND, OH - Miriam I. Montgomery,89, formerly of Water St., Poland, passed away peacefully Tuesday May 7, 2013, at Masternick Memorial Health Care Center.
Born on November 28, 1923, in New Castle, PA, she was the daughter of the late Jess W. and Margaret E. Curts Heckart.
She graduated from Union High School and went to work for L.S. & T Bank in New Castle and in later years for People's Bank. She had been Judge of Elections in Union Township and active in the school P.T.A. She enjoyed singing in her church choir of both First United Methodist Church of New Castle, and Poland United Methodist Church. She was Sunday School Superintendent, President of W.S.C.S. and involved in many of both church's activities
Besides a love for her church, she also enjoyed spending her summers at Canadohta Lake with her children and family. She was able to enjoy many trips abroad bringing home memories for a lifetime.
She had once been married to the late John E. Montgomery, and is survived by a son, J. Mark (Kathleen) Montgomery of Poland and a daughter, JoEllen Primavere of Poland. She had three grandchildren, Tracey (Terry) Bressler, Emily (Jason) Myers, and Kerr Montgomery along with three great-grandchildren, Tori Duffee, Sydney Bressler, and Cooper Myers, and a great-great-grandson, Jionni Fairbanks born hours after her passing.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Eleanor M. Bowden and a brother, George C. Heckart.
Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m., one hour before the funeral service at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, May 10, 2013, at Poland United Methodist Church, 1942 Boardman-Poland Road, Poland. Rev. Michael Grant will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family would like memorial contributions to be made to Poland United Methodist Kids Klub or Masternick Memorial.
