Mildred "Millie" Brooke

Youngstown - Mildred "Millie" Brooke, 96, died Sunday, April 14, 2019 at her home.

Mildred, affectionately known as "Millie" was born December 24, 1922 in Adrian, PA, a daughter of Archie and Mildred Swarm Graham.

She was a 1940 graduate of Punxsutawney High School and came to Youngstown in 1941. She worked at the YMCA until her marriage to Richard "Dick" Brooke on November 18, 1943. After getting married, Millie went to Ft. Bragg, N.C. to be with her husband while he was stationed there with the U.S. Army. While in Ft. Bragg, she worked for the Army Directory Service until Dick was transferred overseas, and she then returned to Youngstown. In 1954, she began working for Plakie Toys in Youngstown as a bookkeeper, a position she held until her retirement in 1985.

She was an avid bowler and bowled in various leagues throughout the years, including the Camelot Seniors. Mrs. Brooke was a member of the Western Reserve United Methodist Church.

Her husband, Dick, preceded her in death on December 9, 2011. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Patricia Graham of Clark Fork, Idaho; and numerous special nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Millie was preceded in death by three brothers, Elwood, Robert, and Kenneth Graham; and her sister, Sarah Siple.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Davis-Becker Funeral Home, 8536 Market St., with Rev. Russell Adams officiating. Family and friends will be received on Thursday from 10-10:45 a.m. at the funeral home, prior to the service. Interment will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
