Mildred Laverne Slaven, 94 Boardman- Mildred Laverne Slaven, 94, of The Greenbriar formerly of Boardman died early Saturday morning at the nursing home. Mrs. Slaven was born September 6, 1908 in Struthers, a daughter of Roy Tillman and Sylvia Huffman Pfau. She lived in Struthers until moving to Boardman in 1986 and to The Greenbriar in in January 2002. She was a 1926 graduate of Struthers High School where she was a member of the Ladies basketball team. In 1925 and 1926 her team was runner-up in the National Championship. She was a telephone operator and receptionist for Youngstown Steel Door for 15 years. She was a member of the Struthers Presbyterian Church and was an avid bridge player. Her husband Norman âa�A"Buzzâa�A� Slaven whom she married June 1927 died February 10, 1961. She leaves two sons, Ray (Jean) Slaven of Poland and Gary (Virginia) Slaven of New Waterford, Ohio; Eight grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Funeral Services will be Tuesday, 11:00 AM at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, Struthers. Friends may call Monday from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
