Michael John Alagy, 71
Boardman: Michael John Alagy, 71, passed away on Thursday, August 22, 2019 at Select Specialty Hospital in Youngstown with his loving family by his side.
Michael known by his family and friends as "Mickey" was born April 1, 1948 in Youngstown, the son of the late Michael and Mary (Evankovich) Alagy.
He graduated from Campbell Memorial High School in 1966 and attended Youngstown State University until he enlisted into the US Air Force.
Mickey started his career in the Air Force on July 22, 1968 to February 10, 1976 and re-enlisted on April 18, 1977 to September 30, 1989, serving 20 years and retiring as Technical Sergeant Michael J. Alagy, United States Air Force. During his career in the Air Force, Mickey earned Air Force Commendation Medal with two devices, Army Commendation Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with five devices, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Air Force Oversea Short Tour Ribbon with two devices, Air Force Oversea Long Tour Ribbon, Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon with three devices, Air Force Training Ribbon, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with device and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. Mickey was station in United States as well as Germany, Izmir Turkey and Thailand. After retiring from the military, Mickey worked for the Campbell Post Office for 12 years.
He was a member of St. Joseph the Provider Church in Campbell.
Mickey enjoyed swimming and playing racquetball. He was fan of the Cleveland Browns and the Cleveland Indians.
Mickey is survived by three sisters, Nancy (Richard Roberts) Thompson of Beaver Falls, PA, Janet Rich of Campbell, and Patricia Budak of Austin, TX; five nieces, Regina (David) Parsons, Renee Wilush, Mary (Donald) Lanzo, Kimberly (Michael) Rescineto, Ilyanna Kadich; five nephews, Stanley (Chris) Tofil, Mark Nocera, Carl Michael Rich, Frank (Christine) Budak, Christopher (Dr. Lisa Newell) Budak; and several great nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Mickey was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Jean Tofil; brother-in-law, Carl Rich; a nephew, Patrick Wilush; and a great niece, Wendy Jackson.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 26, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at Davis-Becker Funeral Home, 8536 Market Street in Boardman.
Family and friends may call on Sunday, August 25, 2019 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Davis-Becker Funeral Home and on Monday from 9 to 10:15 a.m., with services to follow. Interment will take place at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery in Lowellville.
Mickey was a devoted brother and uncle. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
