Poland - Michael J. Fire, 86, died early Friday morning, December 21, 2018 at his home.
Michael, known as "Jim" was born June 23, 1932 in Struthers, a son of Michael J. and Frances (Toto) Fire, Sr.
Raised in Struthers, he was a 1950 graduate of Struthers High School. Mr. Fire worked as a millwright for Youngstown Sheet & Tube until their closing and then worked for United Engineering until his retirement in the early 90's.
He was a charter member of St. Luke Catholic Church, where he enjoyed helping setup for the annual church festival and doing maintenance around the church. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a former member of the Lowellville Rod & Gun Club. In his younger years, he enjoyed bowling at the former Fairlanes and Marhill Lanes.
His wife, the former Nancy Yerian, whom he married October 15, 1960, preceded him in death on July 12, 1990. He is survived by his two sons, Michael J. Fire, III and Robert (Pamela Sturbi) Fire, both of Poland; and two brothers, Frank (Marlene) Fire of Tallmadge and Tony Fire of Struthers.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his brother, Carmen Fire; and step-father, William Carol.
Family and friends will be received on Wednesday from 4-5:45 p.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, 270 N. Main St., Poland, where a funeral service will follow at 6 p.m. Interment will be at Lake Park Cemetery.
